Prominent Korean technology presence
South Korea, with the biggest number of group pavilions at MTA VIETNAM2016, is poised to be one of the world’s top countries exporting manufacturing equipment and systems into Vietnam, to meet rising local production needs. In the first five months of 2016, Vietnam has attracted more than US$10 billion in FDI, with South Korea in the lead with US$3.42 billion1. This augments the country’s position as the Vietnam’s biggest foreign investor.
Against this healthy backdrop, the six South Korean group pavilions are hosting a total of 56 Korean companies displaying a wide variety of technologies that represent the full breadth and depth of the entire manufacturing value chain. Companies under the Korean pavilions include Dong A Electronics, Mega Plus Dong Jin, Harex Engineering, Kacon, Widin, among others.
Speaking of the high level of Korean presence, Mr. Ko Hyun KIM – Head, Korea International Trade Association, Ho Chi Minh City Representative Office said: “MTA VIETNAM is the premier trade event for precision engineering products, materials, components and manufacturing processes. We are very pleased to be a part of this show. Korea is one of the major players in the manufacturing industry and thus, we have a lot to offer and showcase in the exhibition. We hope that our exhibitors will have a productive time at the show, and will be able to meet up with potential buyers and generate new business deals.”
Samsung Seminar – Opportunity for Vietnamese firms to join Samsung’s supply chain
South Korean technology giant - Samsung Electronics, one of the largest foreign investors in Vietnam, is looking at extending its footprint in the country. Since September 2015, Samsung has been developing more Vietnamese vendors into its supply chain. The number of Vietnamese vendors for Samsung has increased significantly, reaching 190 which include twelve first-tier and 178 second-tier suppliers2.
As Samsung continues to expand its operations in Vietnam, there is a pressing need to improve its local production ecosystem. The company embarked on a program to strengthen the capabilities of its local vendor support through transferring more processes as well as technologies to qualified local assemblers and contract manufacturers. Held alongside MTA VIETNAM2016, a program titled “Vietnam’s Manufacturing Industry Development - Samsung Local Vendor Pre-qualification”, hosted by Korea International Trade Association (KITA) and organisers of MTA VIETNAM on 6 July 2016, aim to solidify partnerships and share prospects with homegrown enterprises to be involved in Samsung’s supply chain.
This program will also enable local suppliers to engage with representatives from Samsung Electronics Vietnam, to gain an understanding of the engineering and quality conformance requirements needed to enroll in the South Korean tech giant’s supply chain.
Technical conferences offer practical knowledge and networking opportunity
Complementing the bustling hive of activity on the exhibition floor is a slew of conference tracks that provide a learning platform for international and local industry think-tanks to engage, discuss and exchange knowledge on the latest trends and developments.
In collaboration with Lean Six Sigma Network, Multi Engineering Solutions Laboratory (MESLAB) and Vietnam Association of Mechanical Industry (VAMI), the conferences will impart to delegates, invaluable insights and best practices of the precision engineering industry. Furthermore, two programs hosted by Taiwan Trade Center, Inc. (TAITRA) and Korea International Trade Association (KITA) will feature a strong line-up of leaders and experts from major Taiwanese companies, in addition to representatives from Samsung Electronics Vietnam focusing on the local vendor program.
More than 10,000 trade visitors along with 50 group delegations hailing from major companies across Vietnam and the region are expected to visit MTA VIETNAM2016.
“As the manufacturing sector in Vietnam evolves and develops, we are determined to ensure that MTA VIETNAM continues as the main technology showcase for the country, providing a serious stage for business networking and transactions, as well as a conducive venue for exchanging insights and technological know-how among experts and peers.” said Mr. William Lim – Project Director for Machinery Events, Singapore Exhibition Services.
